Become a follower of Jesus
You probably have an opinion about Jesus. Maybe you think He is a great teacher or a prophet. Maybe you think He didn’t exist at all or at question his life. Whatever you believe, we can probably agree that Jesus changed things. We believe He wants to transform your life for the better, and that He has paved the way back to God for you.
Jesus himself said:
"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well." ~ John 14:6
Trusting Jesus as the way to God is not an exclusive path to God, it is completely inclusive. No matter who you are, what you have done, no matter where you were born, the color of your skin, sexual orientation or social status … Jesus is the way for you to have a relationship with God. Everybody is invited. Everybody is included. Everybody is important. All are welcome!
If you think you are an exception to the rule, you are wrong. Jesus loves you. Yes...you, exactly where you are today. Becoming a Christian is as simple as deciding this is what you want to do and asking Jesus to be a part of your life.
You are probably thinking, “Don’t I have to be a better person first?”
No, God already knows you and loves you. You do not change in order to gain God’s love, you change because you have experienced His love. When you trust Jesus as your Savior, you walk into the fullness of God’s love. Gradually, as you follow Jesus, God’s love changes you. You change because you feel the impact of His love, not in order to be loved. You find that feelings such as jealousy, hostility, anger, dissension and envy lessen, as you are filled with “love, peace, joy, patience, and self-control”.
Through His death on the cross, and then coming back from the dead, Jesus took all of your wrong and gave you all of His right. If you believe that and commit to following Him, your life will never be the same. Believing in Jesus is the first step on the greatest journey of your life. You have not finished the race—you have just gotten started.
Have you entrusted Jesus with your life?
Serve at St. John’s
One of the best ways to grow your faith is to get involved. Each week many folks volunteer at St. John’s in a variety of ways. Think about something you enjoy doing and be a part of our ministry. You can teach/encourage kids and teens, greet guests, run audio visual support, sing as part of our choir or praise team, prepare our worship space, and many other things that help make our ministry come alive. And there’s room for everyone whether you are new to Christianity or a long time believer.
We think by serving you’ll grow. And you might discover what hundreds of other people have discovered: that while you think volunteering requires something from you, it will actually do something good for you and in you. You will be blessed. So join the mission. You’re invited. Sign up today (link or way to sign up).
Serve in East County
We love our cities in East County because God loves our cities. As God told us through the prophet Jeremiah, “Work for the peace and the prosperity of the city where I sent you..” Jeremiah 29:7 There are many ways to serve and help transform our neighborhoods, to provide assistance to youth and families in need, and to impact our cities for God. Here are just a few of your options: (need a link to our ministry page)
Baja Mission – spend a week in the summer on the Mexican Baja Peninsula working with migrant workers, a battered woman’s shelter and other refugees.
Bread of Life – one Saturday a month we prepare and serve a delicious lunch for those in need
Kid’s Club – Wednesday, during the school year, we spend two hours in the afternoon with local elementary school children, playing, encouraging and teaching them about our God.
Project Second Chance – we partner with the Contra Costa Library teaching adults to read.
Youth Intervention Network – is a part of the Antioch School District student support services where you can volunteer as a family mediator or education advocate. Extensive training is provided.
Passion – yours! Look for nonprofits, for community groups or other avenues to get involved in your community serving those that you most want to reach. Your time and energy, especially as you serve for God, will be a blessing to all involved.
When you join us Sundays, you’ll also discover other opportunities to jump in and serve in the local community. Together, we can show our cities God’s love.
Bring a friend
When you discover a great new restaurant or app, what’s the first thing you do? Tell a friend. Faith is like that. It’s better with friends so don’t keep the good news to yourself.
Text, call or invite a friend to join you for services, serving opportunities or fun community events. It’s always better when you explore and grow together.
Choose Community
We have dinner groups, fun activities to join, and occasional groups available for anyone. Learn about Jesus with us through Bible Studies, special study classes and ongoing skills classes. Check out our calendar for upcoming events. (link to calendar)
New to St. John’s
Quarterly gatherings are held to introduce you to what it means to be a follower of Christ and to the St. John’s Community. Contact our office or check out our calendar for more information. (link to calendar)
Give generously
Giving and supporting ministry is a way to show your love for good. It is a discipline that helps to show and strengthen our trust in God. When we trust God to provide what we need, it frees us up to be generous with our time, talents and possessions.
Whether you want to give to the church regularly, consistently, or you want to make a one-time gift, we’ll make it easy for you.
Give to our mission
You’re surrounded by generous people at St. John’s. When you give, your support our mission to invite people into a deep meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ and with one another, and to be the heart, hands and feet of Jesus in the world so that all will know they are loved.
Sign up to give automatically online weekly, monthly or whenever you designate. You control the gift and the amount, but when you automate what’s important, you make our mission even stronger. (link to Simply Giving)
Thanks for giving! Your gift inspires us and inspires others.
